For millennials we grew up with the greatest pop stars, Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Spice Girls and many more. Of course we were devastated when they broke up and stopped creating glorious pop music.
We now get to believe in love again because Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys are BACK. Both having residency in Las Vegas, which started with Britney last year and Backstreet Boys to begin next year.
We all remember Britney starting as the girl next door, slowly she started to shake that image with her album “Oops!… I Did It Again”. Luckily for us the Backstreet Boys kept their innocence before they split, being every mom and daughters dream.
Since Britney’s start in Vegas she has proven she is the pop goddess we remember. She has signed another contract to extend her residency in Vegas. Maybe the girl next door image is gone forever but, she’s still creating new fans and keeping her fans from the 90s wanting more.
Now we have the Backstreet Boys coming next year and we don’t know what to expect. There were images posted by two Backstreet Boys members, in the studio with Florida Georgia Line. Could they be doing country? This isn’t the boy band I remember, they were pop superstars. This may be their new image or maybe they are just trying out all avenues since they have a chance to recreate themselves. It’s too soon to tell if they will receive the love of the new generation but there are still plenty of 90s lovers that will buy their tickets!
Being a total “90s kid” I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to comment on this post. Just the pictures themselves bring back such great memories with my “hit-clips” (remember those). It’s interesting to think about the type of brand these groups/artists were back then. But, it’s even more interesting to think about them reinventing their brands. After all these years they could come back completely opposite than how we remember them.
Haha yes! Hip clips were the best. How do you think their brand will change now they are coming back?
Being a kid from the 90s, I am so excited that THE Britney Spears is continuing her music career, as well as the Backstreet Boys. Both of these artists were huge parts of my childhood and I have been able to watch as their music evolved throughout the years. I am seeing Britney Spears live in December and I have never been more excited for anything!
I’m so glad to hear that the Backstreet Boys are back!!! I loved the Backstreet Boys growing up. I can’t really see them singing country though, maybe a country twist, but that might be a little weird. Britney Spears is still a pop superstar in my eyes!
I could not agree more with this post, my boss and I were just talking about how everything from music to fashion is coming back from the 90’s. I was born in 1995 so I don’t remember all of the 90’s but who wasn’t signing “Hit Me Baby One More Time” on the playground? I think its awesome that these bands are coming back together with a new look, after all they do have a new generation to appeal to.
It’s funny to watch the reoccurrence of the 90s appearing once again in society. It seems like history truly does repeat itself. I wonder if the emergence of 90s style in fashion was what prompted Britney and the Backstreet Boys’ shows in Vegas. Its neat how our generation and our likes and dislikes can influence more than we know.
Such a 90’s fan! At my old job our Pandora station would always be Hits from the 90’s or Early 2000s. When I was a little girl I had a DVD of Britney Spears’s Oops…I Did It Again album containing all the music videos, documentaries about how the album came together, and more. That was my favorite DVD and I am sure I annoyed my father every morning begging to watch it. I definitely want to surprise him by getting tickets to her Las Vegas show even though I know he will hate it!
I was on a road trip this weekend and “I Want It That Way” came on the radio, so this article made me rather excited! I do not know if I would like the Backstreet Boys singing country. I feel like as a 90s kid, that we would all want the Backstreet Boys to come back with the genre they began with. However, I do want them to surprise us, meaning that I would not mind them twisting another genre with the genre they already are performing.
I am a HUGE 90’s music fan. NSYNC and Backstreet Boys were (and still are) my favorites. I was never a huge fan of Brittney Spears, but she bounced back from her 2007 incident and is incredibly successful. I know Backstreet Boys performed with Florida Georgia Line at the iHeart Music Festival, but that is so exciting to know that they are heading toward Vegas! I saw them on their reunion tour about 3 years ago and it was seriously the best night of my life, no doubt.
I love 90’s music!! My entire childhood was spent idolizing Britney Spears. Her “girl next door” brand was the best and most influential to young girls at this time, in my opinion. I feel like I grew up right there with her. I still listen to her music as well as NSync. I also have noticed the return of 90s fashion that these people so heavily wore at this time. I love everything about the 90s and i hope Britney, NSync, and the Back Street Boys stay to embrace change and make new music!
This is great! I’m so proud to be a 90’s kid. It’s crazy to see how some things from the 90’s is starting to be trendy again. I was one of the biggest Britney Spears fans as a young girl and now being 20 years old and having my childhood idol STILL producing top hits is pretty awesome!
Since I am a fan of the 90’s and music from this decade, I couldn’t pass up the chance to comment on this post. Even though Britney Spears had her time in the years past, she is coming back evolved and with a new image. A small part of me is actually really excited to see her back in the music industry and creating some of her best music yet. And…The Backstreet Boys…who WOULDN’T be excited about the reemergence of this amazing boy band? I know I am! I can’t wait for what is in store and I have a feeling they will be coming back better than ever.
I am so excited for this!! I remember dancing to the Backstreet Boys but not singing since I couldn’t speak English. When I was older and more fluent in the language, I jammed to Britney’s “Greatest Hits” album from 2004 and knew the words to every song. I still listen to it today but I can’t remember every word to each song, sadly. I wonder if the Backstreet Boys will come with new dance moves that I can dance to in the living room.
Great article! It’s great to see these brands of people regrouping and finding a way to re-ignite the fire they had in the 90s, and realizing that now is a good time to reboot these artists and redesign the brands they created so many years ago.
I love this! I have so much nostalgia for the 90’s. It’s my all time favorite music. Britney Spears was my first concert ever! I love how all of the old hits are coming back and how people are starting to appreciate them and how these artists are reinventing themselves!
Ahhh the nostalgia! I think that’s one of the biggest trait of a 90’s kid, our affinity for nostalgia. No other generation reminisces their childhood like we do, and for good reason if you ask me. Britney, Backstreet Boys, Nsync, etc… We sure were the spoiled ones. And the fact that the 90’s are coming back around just proves how great it actually was!
As a 90’s kid I think its awesome how Britney and the backstreet and back. But unfortunately I do not think that they will have the same response this day in age than they did back in the 90’s. I think that rebuilding their empire as an artist will take years. But I do miss the pop music they produced unfortunately I believe that the 90’s should be kept in the 90’s.
I loved this post! Being a kid from the 90’s I couldn’t be more excited that the Back Street Boys are coming back! They were my favorite, along with Brittany Spears when I was younger. I still listen to Brittany Spear’s music and I love that her career is still going strong. This post was definitely relatable to my generation.
I really enjoyed this post, yes, being a 90’s kid helps, but I see other great things too. The way you posted pictures of Brit when she was young and same with the backstreet boys, but then posted their new looks now. As I was scrolling this caught my eye because I automatically thought the article was going to be about them making a comeback, and it was. I didn’t know a lot of this information, and am very interested! I think you did a great job on not posting too many pictures, but posting the most effective ones. I love your last sentence too, because you’re right, I would so buy their tickets. Great post!!
Being born in the 90’s, this article really caught my eye! I didn’t know that the backstreet boys were making a comeback at all but like any little girl, I loved Britney Spears! Thanks for the cool new information, so interesting to see history repeat itself in whats popular.
The 90s are on a full come back! I was born in 1990 and consider myself a TRUE 90s baby. Everybody loved Brittney spears and Christina Aguilera but the Nysnc and Backstreet boy fan base might as well have been bloods vs crips. The idea that they are all moving to Vegas to reboot their careers is interesting and I hope the best for them all. I think what would be more beneficial would be to have a cage match of backstreet vs nysnc as a fundraiser for ALS.
So, even as a pretty big fan of all of these band’s being a 90’s kid, it…is just too much. I won’t be buying their music, or really listening. I’ve grown out of that phase, and while I have a special place in my heart for their older music, I don’t have a place in my heart for the new stuff.
oh my gosh! I had no idea they were coming back. This totally just made my morning. Cant wait to hear more information about this!
I was a HUGE fan of them. I’m kind of happy to see them coming back but I also think it’s kind of weird. I just don’t think they’ll be able to top their hit from back in the day.
Ahh the 90s, a nostalgic time filled with such happiness making its way back around. I wholeheartedly agree with this post because I too loved everything 90s. From the Backstreet Boys to Britney Spears I knew every lyric (and still do). I’m excited that things of the 90s are making a comeback especially the Backstreet Boys. It is crazy to see the impact that is still relevant, and I am more excited for the new impact their music will make!
As a 90’s baby, I was instantly drawn to this article. Britney Spears was my first CD I ever owned! Britney and the Backstreet Boys were huge brands in themselves and now it’s crazy to think that they are both making a comeback. Lucky for them, they already have a large and loyal fan base (myself included) and have brand loyalty in a way. I doubt we will all be wearing backstreet boys t-shirts and hanging up posters of them in our rooms, but I fully believe their concerts will sell out! I am interested to see how they will use their platform to make an impact on today’s generation.
This post made me so excited! I get super nostalgic about my childhood and the 90s/early 2000s. I remember the very first CD I owned was Britney Spears’s first album, and I jammed out to it multiple times a day. There really is nothing like pop music from that time period. We millennials can really appreciate this. This article instantly made me want to read it because of all the old pictures of past pop sensations and because I love experiencing any kind of nostalgia and reminiscing about my childhood. I remember when T-Pain came to campus last year, and I went just to enjoy a throwback (to middle school) concert. I would definitely buy tickets to see Britney or the Backstreet Boys again in concert.
As much hate as people give it nowadays, 90’s pop truly was something special.I recently watched the Backstreet Boys documentary on Hulu and it was really interesting and exciting to see them getting back in the game. Their return is something I am really excited for and am OVERJOYED to see I’m no the only one. Backstreets’ back, alright!
I remember singing both Britney and the Backstreet Boys in the back seat of the car as a kid anytime we went anywhere! They were huge back then and its great to see that they’re popularity and talent hasn’t faded much since the 90’s. I actually saw the Backstreet Boys in concert a few years ago! I would absolutely love to see either of their shows in Vegas at some point!
This article is great to see, all though I was not the biggest boy band fan growing up the Backstreet boys and other groups are a huge part of all 90’s kids memory. It is pretty cool to see some of them coming back to regroup and work together again even if you weren’t their biggest fans growing up.
Major throwback and made my day! Being born in ’96 I’m a young 90’s baby, but I had those little “hit clips” at my uncles house with, of course, Backstreet Boys. I would dance all around his kitchen with the little speaker about a thousand times with the little “hi tech” speaker in my hand. My uncle now has an 8 year old daughter who actually showed it to me the other day, but of course has no idea how cool this band was back then. They will definitely be a hit just like Britney because everyone loves a good comeback, and the memories associated with it. (Ps, I now have “Everybody” stuck in my head)
I love this article! I find it interesting how history tends to repeat itself! The photos were also a great touch for visuals!
Loved this article! This was a major throwback and being a 90s kid made this piece really nostalgic. It’s really cool to see the reoccurrence of 90s trends that are coming back in style. I’m definitely interested to see how people respond to this sort of 90s resurgence that’s currently happening in comparison to when they all first came out.
