When I think of Valentine’s Day, the first things that immediately come to mind are candy, flowers, and stuffed animals, but people get much more creative with their gifts on this special holiday, especially now in 2017.
According to Readers Digest, these are some of the best gifts to buy your special someone on Valentine’s Day:
- Candles
- Puzzles
- Earrings
- Mittens or Gloves
- Bamboo hearts
- Couple’s Pillows
- Desserts
- Personalized Wallet Inserts
- Phone Cases
- Personalized Notes
Even though these may be among some of the more creative gifts, heart-shaped candies and chocolates still saturate my hungry mind when I think of Valentine’s Day. Since Valentine’s Day disappears as quickly as it comes, the candy stores slash their prices overnight, and with Easter right around the corner, stores are eager to clear their shelves of Valentine’s candy and restock with Easter goodies.
Not only can you get great deals on the Valentine’s Day candy, but you can also stock up and use your leftover candy for Easter and other holidays. Personally, the candy is the best part of any holiday, so I always take advantage of the sales.

My favorite part about Valentines Day is the leftover sale candy as well! I didn’t know that things like phone cases, puzzles, and bamboo hearts were so popular on Valentines Day…what happened to flowers and a card being enough!!
Jennifer, I totally agree that discounted candy is a great steal. I worked in retail and droves of people would come in to get sale candy. However, It’s really a sham to consumers because now every holiday can be marketed around getting candy. The candy business will defiantly thrive because of this.
I never thought about taking advantage of the discounted candy after valentine’s day. I have always been a fan of Easter candy, so this year I think I’m going to take advantage of discounted candy. My favorite has always been the big chocolate eggs that are filled with peanut butter.
I live for the candy sales on February 15th! They drop all the prices on chocolates, cupcakes, and cookies which why I also find myself at the store the day after Valentine’s Day. This is a trend I think people are catching on to and using to their advantage. I know several couples who decided to wait and celebrate Valentine’s after the 14th, which ended up saving them money.
Jennifer,
I agree I think one of the things that make Valentines so great is the chocolate. Like you said, the day comes and goes so fast that buying things like a phone case or couples pillows is honestly overkill. Who wants to walk around weeks after Valentines with a phone case that says something cheesy? AND like you said, the discounted candy is the absolute best. My roommate and I recently decided that next year when we celebrate Valentines, we are going to do it the day after so we can get all the candy we want 50% off.
