The four years you spend in college will be some of the best and worst times of your life. Throughout the four years, you grow as a person, create friendships, and are forced to figure out your next step in life. I’m not saying you have to have your whole life planned out by the time you graduate, but wouldn’t it be nice to know how to get ahead in the real world?
IMC is a growing discipline that encompasses strategic planning in Public Relations, Advertising, and Marketing to establish a relationship between an organization and its consumers. So if you’re planning to go into IMC, I have some advice that will benefit you.
With all new disciplines it is common to encounter some obstacles. However, having some knowledge and applying it to overcome the challenges present in the field of IMC will give you an advantage over others competing for the same job.
- Aligning internal and external marketing communication.
What does this mean? : Make sure all modes of communication are on the same page.
- Moving to a behavioral base for marketing communication outcomes.
What does this mean? : Think of how a person would interact with the brand.
- Reversing the flow of marketing communication programs.
What does this mean? : Focus your attention on the consumers’ perspective.
- Making the brand the key element in the marketing effort.
What does this mean? : Focus on the brand when you are communicating a message to the public. Unnecessary elements take away the attention from the brand.
- Developing a global perspective.
What does this mean? : Technology has made it easier for everyone to communicate with one another over long distances. Think about how to communicate to consumers globally.
- Developing forward-looking systems of forecasting, measurement, and evaluation.
What does this mean? : Take advantages of the technology we have and create new ways to predict, measure, and analyze data.
- Developing new organizational structures and compensation methods.
What does this mean? : Help be part of the change that pushes IMC to be more commonly used with businesses and corporations.

This was a very good read! I completely agree with every concept you addressed in your article. IMC needs to be incorporated in all of our jobs. I actually used what I have learned from IMC in a job interview last week and I got the job! I am living proof that using IMC in the workplace is successful!
As a senior graduating in May, the title of your post caught my attention. The topic is relevant as most of your audience is made of IMC students. It is also very beneficial for the future, as I believe many of us are at least interested in pursuing a job in some aspect of IMC. I enjoyed the spaced out format of the information. The points are aesthetically pleasing and easier to read as such. I think it would have been helpful to include a few conclusive statements after the definitions and before the meme. A conclusion would serve as a reflective piece for the reader to remain thoughtful on the topic. Lastly, I am glad you used the meme. It creates a nice visual valediction for the reader. As a visual person, I always enjoy a good picture, especially a meme, that adds to what I am reading.
I really enjoyed reading this post! There some grade guidelines from IMC to give me an advantage while competing for a job that I will definitely remember and use. This post was short and straight to the point without adding things I didn’t care to read about.
I actually really appreciated this post. Now, to be fair it’s almost preaching to the choir, as everyone who reads is going to be interested in IMC, but that means you have a good sense on who your audience is. It was really nice because it pre-introduced us into some topics and provided a concise and succinct explanation of future topics in IMC, while also going back and giving a really good working definition of some topics or ideas we’ve already covered.
I scrolled back up to this post after seeing the picture of Leonardo DiCaprio, he really caught my attention. As I began reading I really enjoyed the numbered points and I really related to it. Being a junior and beginning to think about jobs and what I am interested in. It proposed some interesting and valid points that I will definitely remember.
I really like this post because it is very important to staying ahead of the curb that way you are ready for whatever comes at you that’s if you do your research beforehand. That is why IMC should be incorporated more into business. That way the employer is fully prepared to understand how their company reaches our to the market. Overall the post was really good, by breaking down everything into parts with good details.
