You friend, then you stalk. You follow, they tweet and then you re-tweet their tweets.
They blog.
And surprisingly there are a number of blogs written by celebrities that are actually worth reading. Alec Baldwin’s blog, hosted by The Huffington Post gives excellent insight into his life, his feelings, his views on current events, etc,. It is very intriguing sometimes to see the “real” side of a famous person’s life. The term “real” meaning: at least the online presence of the blog is sincere.
So, with this in mind I would like to introduce Forbes Top Five Best Celebrity Blogs.
#1—Wil Wheaton
#2—Moby
#5—Dave Barry
These may not be the mainstream celebrities that most would follow on Twitter or friend on Facebook; however, their blogs are intriguing, funny and make for a great read.
ENJOY!

Laura, I really enjoyed the fact that you decided to blog about this. I think celebrities doing blogs are such a great idea. We always look up to celebrities like they are these elite, ethereal beings that don’t live lives outside the movies. Now technology is bringing us all together. I liked that in your blog you noted the possibility of these blog posts not being from the actual celebrity. In a way, I don’t think that those following these posts want to know the truth behind the blog. When Alec Baldwin turns out to be this genuinely nice person, with an “excellent insight into his life, his feelings, [and] his views on current events” no one wants to believe different. Who likes bad news? Ignorance is bliss in this case. If it was me,and I had these people on a pedastal, it would be hard to hear otherwise, especially via blog. I am not sure if I am rambling (or just very excited to read Yentel’s blog) but overall I think that all of the new social media technologies are not only bringing friends and family together but actors/actresses together with their fans too. Being able to relate to someone increases trust and likeability. Unless they post something really horrid on their blog, twitter, or facebook, I think this will definitely continue to bring fans and celebrities together.
This was a very interesting blog! I’m glad that this was your topic for the blog. Your point “It is very intriguing sometimes to see the “real” side of a famous person’s life. The term “real” meaning: at least the online presence of the blog is sincere.” was very interesting and I agree with it! It is nice to see celebrities blog and allow us to see their “real” side instead. Not only does it allow us to get to know our favorite celebrities but I also see it as allowing them to let us know a different side and person behind who we see on screen. For example, if there were rumors going on about a certain celebrity they can blog about it and let fans know what their side of the story is.
It is amazing how social networking can be such a wonderful thing but at the same time it can also be very evil.
As stated before, celebrities really should use social media more to their advantage. Even if it’s little updates on what’s happening with their professional careers or day to day thoughts. The average person will feel closer to said celebrity. Sure some celebrities embrace these medias but most don’t really use it all that often if at all. Most of this probably has to do with publicists telling their clients that one slip up could ruined their career or whatever.
In this age of social media, I believe we will see more celebrities embrace and accept what these platforms can do. I mean Bill Gates just open his twitter account a month ago…
In this day in age, a lot of people are interested in celebrities. We buy their movies and cds, we read the magazines that they appear on the cover of, and we follow them on the internet. Celebrities are our friends on Facebook and MySpace, we are their followers on twitter, and now we can read their blogs. Blogs are a form of social networking that lets the fans get a closer look at their favorite celebrity. Celebrities can blog about important things going on in their lives and can give fans a sense of truth about their idols. Celebrity blogging can also help advertise for the celebrity’s products. Movies, cds, and any product they promote can be put center stage in their blog.
Celebrity blogs are always entertaining, seeing as most “normal” people like to live vicariously through these people that we don’t even know. I love reading the thoughts of the minds of my favorite actors, actresses, and artists because I feel like what they feel is important to me. As a fan, and somewhat of a follower, what these people talk about sets the standard for what we should be thinking of. Definitely a big reminder of the Agenda Setting Theory, via social networks. Its a given to me, that what they want to talk about should be something I should want to talk about. Put it this way, I like what they say in songs, or in movies, I wonder what a casual conversation with this person would be like: and Taa-Daa!!
Thanks for making this information availble because it was very insightful. I would not have picked these people if I had to think of the five most popular celebraties on twitter. I think it is great that celebrities use a twitter account, but I don’t want to know too much. They have their lives and I think they should keep it private. It is their life, and who are we to think we should know every detail of it. I like that they are open about their lives, but don’t be addicted to twitter. Celebrities are like a brand. We like them a lot but we don’t need to know too much. It is nice having our updates on how they are doing, but don’t give us a play-by-play on what they did during the day. What these celebrties do is exactly that so I hope they keep it up.
This is a good post and a good list of celebrity blogs. I think celebrity blogging is a great way to connect with fans and take some of your publicity into your own hands (as opposed to leaving it up to Perez Hilton). Blogging about real stuff is a great way to make celebs seem more down to earth and show that they actually have a personality besides the characters they play in the movies.
